Hey {{first_name | Brew}},
Cape Town’s week came in blazing: the 2010 FIFA World Cup just got crowned the greatest tournament of all time, a teenage prodigy is fuelling SA’s Formula 1 dream, the V&A Waterfront dropped a R20bn glow-up plan, and Gary Kirsten says his real legacy isn’t trophies, but cricket pitches in Khayelitsha.
Here’s the lineup:

Here’s what had us buzzing like it’s 2010 👇
🗞️ The Headlines
🏆 2010 WORLD CUP CROWNED GREATEST. EVER.
Fifteen years later, and we’re still winning. Sport Bible just ranked the 2010 FIFA World Cup the greatest tournament of all time. Yeah, you read that right.

Why we’re still buzzing:
Over 3 million fans in stadiums. 3.2 billion watching globally. My braai alone felt like a global event.
That final? Spain vs Netherlands. 900 million live viewers. Andrés Iniesta breaking our hearts and then mending them with pure football magic.
Vuvuzelas. You either loved it or hated it, but you definitely still hear them in your dreams.
It wasn’t just football, it was a continent’s moment. And now it’s officially legendary.
🏎️ TEEN PRODIGY MIKA ABRAHAMS FUELS SA’S F1 DREAM
Cabinet just approved SA’s bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2027. And 17-year-old Mika Abrahams is the face of the revolution.
Why it’s ridiculously cool:
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille is backing this faster than a Ferrari on the straight. Economic opportunities, global stage, you name it.
Mika’s already killing it in Formula 4 and GB3. By 2028, he wants to be in F1. My biggest achievement at 17 was passing my driver’s license.
This isn’t just about fast cars, it’s about fast-tracking dreams. And let’s be honest, a Grand Prix in Cape Town would be the dopest thing since, well, the World Cup.
🌊 V&A WATERFRONT BEGINS R20BN GRANGER BAY GLOW-UP
The V&A is not playing around. They’ve started a R20 billion expansion that’ll make Granger Bay the new place to see and be seen.
Your future Instagram feed will thank you:
A R1.35-billion super-luxury hotel. Because one InterContinental wasn’t enough.
A new seawall, breakwaters, tidal pools, and promenades. Basically, they’re building a paradise within a paradise.
They’re even relocating the Oranjezicht Market. Change is coming, people.
My bank account is already nervous, but my inner coastal grandma is thrilled.
🏏 GARY KIRSTEN’S CRICKET LEGACY ISN’T WHAT YOU THINK
The man scored 21 test centuries and coached India to a World Cup win, but he says his work in Khayelitsha is a career highlight.
Why this hits different:
Kirsten’s Catch Trust isn’t taking kids out of townships; it’s bringing world-class facilities to them.
Meet Sinelethu Yaso, a 19-year-old bowling sensation who went from dancing to dominating cricket pitches.
Next year, he’s taking a girls’ team to Lord’s. Because dreams shouldn’t have postcodes.
“Cricket gave me everything. Now’s my chance to give something back.” Okay, who’s cutting onions?

🤔 Topic of the Week
Why Are Restaurants So Expensive?
A Hermanus local recently went on a fiery Reddit rant after paying R80 for a watered-down milkshake and nearly R200 for a small casual meal. Their takeaway: restaurants aren’t charging for the food, they’re charging for the view, the vibe, and the hipster factor.
The comments section lit up:
Locals agree: Cape Town prices feel geared toward tourists, with R200+ mains now the “norm.”
Chefs counter: high rents, staff costs, electricity, and compliance eat away at margins, meaning many restaurants barely break even.
The trust gap: diners are willing to pay premium if the quality matches the price but when it doesn’t, they won’t come back.
Perspective check: some compared a R200 dinner to a R750 “cheap” date night at the cinema, saying restaurants might still be the better deal.
The debate boils down to this: locals feel priced out, restaurants feel squeezed out. And somewhere between an R80 milkshake and a R45 beer, both sides lose.
Are restaurants really that overpriced, or are we just not seeing the hidden costs? Reply with your take.
